He is widely respected for his fearless, evidence-driven advocacy for Somali sovereignty, governance reform, and national dignity.<\/p><p data-start=\"580\" data-end=\"1205\">A psychiatrist, social-policy specialist, and former youth-offender clinician in the Canadian North (Northwest Territories and Yukon), Dr. Egal also served as a Mental Health Policy Advisor and Consultant at the Federal Government of Canada headquarters in Ottawa from 1986 to 1992. Following Somalia\u2019s state collapse, he became one of the earliest post-civil war nation-builders.
